On 19 March 2022, Mr. Kishida Fumio, Prime Minister of Japan visited India on the occasion of the 14th Annual Indo-Japan Summit, making this his first bilateral visit to India since assuming office as Prime Minister. The Summit was especially significant as this year also marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Japan-India diplomatic relations. "India-Japan Economic Forum" was conducted during this visit in the presence of both the Prime Ministers and representatives of Japanese and Indian industries.
The forum witnessed remarks by the members of Japanese and Indian industries, a movie screening commemorating the 70th anniversary of Japan-India relations, an exchange of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Suzuki Motor Corporation and the Government of Gujarat, followed by remarks by both the Prime Ministers.

Suzuki Motor Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Gujarat, India, to invest approximately 150 billion yen (approximately 104.4 billion rupees) for local manufacturing of electric vehicles (BEV) and BEV batteries. The MoU was exchanged in the presence of both the Prime Ministers.
