The Embassy of Japan in India and the Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations (ICRIER) teamed up to host a one-day seminar at The Claridges on “Japan-India Partnership for Achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.  In his opening remarks, Ambassador of Japan to India, Mr. Kenji Hiramatsu, reiterated Japan’s commitment, as G20 President and the host of the TICAD VII (Tokyo International Conference on African Development) in 2019, to working toward the realization of a society where no one is left behind in line with the philosophy of human security.  Ambassador Hiramatsu also presented Japan’s public and private effort in India in the fields of healthcare, WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene), and environment.  The inaugural session was graced by the address of Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Vice Chairperson of NITI Aayog, who leads India’s policy planning and execution of Vision 2030

Japan has been supporting India’s effort to achieve SDGs in various modalities including through Official Development Assistance (ODA).  The Embassy has also been putting Japan’s Blue Sky Initiatives into practice to tackle environmental pollution in India.

The Japan-ICRIER seminar highlighted the methods of addressing global development challenges in healthcare, WASH, and environment as well as cross-cutting issues of women empowerment from Japanese and Indian perspectives.  The thematic sessions enjoyed active participation of experts from policy circles, practitioners from the fields, and private sector representatives.  Participants’ presentations can be accessed at the ICRIER website.
