Ambassador's Message
2026/10/23
Two years have passed since I arrived in New Delhi on 23 October 2024 to assume my duties as Ambassador of Japan to India.
In 2014, Japan and India elevated their bilateral relationship to “Special Strategic and Global Partnership.” More than a decade later, our two countries enjoy closer ties than ever before. In 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Japan, where “the Japan-India Joint Vision for the Next Decade” was announced. Prime Minister TAKAICHI Sanae, in turn, visited India this year. Japan-India relations are thriving across a wide range of fields, including diplomacy, defence, economic security, investment and innovation, and people-to-people exchanges. Since my arrival two years ago, I have witnessed firsthand the steady expansion and deepening of bilateral cooperation. In addition to annual mutual visits by our prime ministers, exchanges between our two countries are taking place almost every day, involving ministers, parliamentary groups, local governments and businesses delegations.
Japan and India are “natural partners” that share universal values such as democracy as well as deep historical and cultural ties. To quote Prime Minister Modi, “Japan-India relations are a relationship made for each other.” As the international situation becomes increasingly uncertain, we are determined to enhance Japan-India relations as partners of strategic convergence and trust. With this determination, I will continue to devote my utmost efforts to supporting Japanese nationals and companies in India, as well as those seeking to expand their business into the Indian market.
To date, I have made a total of 36 visits to 18 states across India, and I continue to be deeply impressed by the country's diversity and the depth of its history and culture. In 2027, Japan and India will mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. To bring the hearts and minds of the people of our two countries even closer together, a variety of commemorative initiatives are planned, including those involving the content industry, sports, and youth exchanges. We look forward to celebrating this milestone with all of you across India.
The Embassy of Japan in India will continue to work towards further strengthening the bilateral ties while ensuring the safety of Japanese nationals in India. I greatly appreciate your continued support and cooperation.
