Ambassador Suzuki and Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra Co-Chaired the 7th Act East Forum

2024/2/19
On February 19th, under the co-chairmanship of Mr. Hiroshi Suzuki, Ambassador of Japan to India, and Mr. Vinay Mohan Kwatra, Indian Foreign Secretary, the 7th "Japan-India Act East Forum" was held in Delhi. Participants included representatives from the Embassy of Japan in India, along with other Japanese government institutions located in Delhi, as well as officials from the Ministry of External Affairs of India, other central government ministries, and the governments of the North-Eastern states.

The forum was founded in 2017 with the goal of addressing cooperation in many fields within the region in order to further strengthen cooperation between Japan and India in the North-Eastern part of India. Japan has contributed 385 billion yen (approximately 22,000 crore) in support so far. The discussion covered strategies for improving connectivity and furthering development in North-Eastern India and encouraging investment to support industries. This is also in line with Prime Minister Kishida's March 2023 proposal for the "Bay of Bengal-Northeast India Industrial Value Chain Concept." Further discussions were held regarding the advancement of Japanese language education, which is a fundamental aspect of the collaborative partnership between Japan and India.
