The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Project scheme was established in 1989 to meet diverse basic human needs in developing countries. The Government of Japan has supported India’s grassroots projects in various fields such as construction of school buildings, vocational centers, check dams, provision of medical equipment and so on.
This project, which amounts to approximately 7.53 million Japanese Yen, supports the provision of a solar power generation system to Vishnu Bhagwan Public School, managed and operated by Utthan, the recipient organization. This school provides education to children from schedule castes and different tribes around the area. The project aims to provide stable electricity for uninterrupted class hours and a safe and healthy educational and living environment for students.
Since its establishment in 1996, UTTHAN - Centre for Sustainable Development and Poverty Alleviation, has been actively engaging in various activities for sustainable development. It now aims to create an eco-friendly campus for the Vishnu Bhagwan Public School by focusing primarily on consciousness for environmental needs.
The project will ensure a stable power supply to the school and provide an appropriate educational facility that is focused on the betterment of environment and health. This provision of solar power generation system to Vishnu Bhagwan Public School Hostel Building will enable the organization to contribute to enhancing the quality of education.
With the support of Japanese GGP, about 6,260 people including around 6,000 students and 260 teachers and other staff at the school will be able to study and work in appropriate health-conscious educational facilities.
Since the Government of India decided to develop Allahabad as one of the smart cities under the smart city mission, this project will be a step to meet increasing energy demands in the rapid growing city of Allahabad through smart and clean solar energy.
The Government of Japan hopes that this project will create a positive impact on the local area by demonstrating transformation of the eco-friendly school through sustainable development. This year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries. On this auspicious occasion, we will further develop the friendly and cooperative relationship between Japan and India.
