3 New Grassroots Grant Assistance Projects in the amount of 24.2 million Yen to be signed

The signing ceremony of Grant Contracts (G/Cs), relating to 3 projects under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) scheme, namely, “The Project for Improvement of Medical Equipment for Maternal and Child Health Care for the Underprivileged, Ashok Vihar, Delhi”; “The Project for Provision of Eye Medical Equipment for the Underprivileged in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh”; and “The Project for Provision of Eye Medical Equipment for the Rural Underprivileged People, Noida, Uttar Pradesh”, will be held on 9th March 2020, at the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi.

In the ceremony, the G/Cs will be signed between H.E. Mr. Satoshi Suzuki, Ambassador of Japan to India, and the representatives of the respective recipient organizations.

The Government of Japan offers a financial assistance scheme called “the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP)” for development projects designed to meet the diverse basic human needs of the people in developing countries. Since 1989, the scheme has been supporting relatively small-scaled projects implemented by non-profit organizations, such as, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and educational and medical institutions, through Japanese diplomatic missions in developing countries.

The total amount to be disbursed for the three projects is around 24.2 million Yen. Details of each project are as follows:
 
(1) “The Project for Improvement of Medical Equipment for Maternal and Child Health Care for the Underprivileged, Ashok Vihar, Delhi” (Recipient Organization: Jivodaya Hospital)

This project, the amount of which totals around 7.7 million Yen, proposes to support the purchase of new Gynecology medical equipment for underprivileged people in Delhi.
 
(2) “The Project for Provision of Eye Medical Equipment for the Underprivileged in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh” (Recipient Organization: Kalyanam Karoti)

This project, the amount of which totals around 9 million Yen, will support the purchase of new eye medical equipment for poor people in the remote villages in Mathura, Uttar Pradesh.
 
(3) “The Project for Provision of Eye Medical Equipment for the Rural Underprivileged People, Noida, Uttar Pradesh” (Ishwar Charitable Trust)

This project, the amount of which totals around 7.5 million Yen, will support the purchase of new eye medical equipment for the underprivileged people in Noida, Uttar Pradesh.  
 
The Government of Japan hopes that these grants will help improve the lives of people in the project areas, and further strengthen the friendly relationship and cooperation between Japan and India.
