North East Japan Caravan 2023: Shillong

Embassy of Japan is holding “North East Japan Caravan 2023” jointly with the Japan Foundation New Delhi and Indian Council for Cultural Relations (North East) from 17th to 19th November 2023 at Soso Tham Auditorium, Shillong.
 
Inauguration Ceremony
Director of ICCR Northeast Zone, Ambassador of Japan to India, Director of Japan Foundation New Delhi and a dignitary from the Meghalaya Government will address the audience outlining the events being held under the Northeast Japan Caravan 2023, Shillong and the growing Japan-India relations, particularly people-to-people exchanges.
 
Judo and Karate Demonstrations and Workshop by Meghalaya Judo Association and All Meghalaya Karate Association




Judo and Karate are Japanese martial art forms.  While Judo was invented by Jigoro Kano in Japan in 1882 as a safe and effective form of physical education and self-defence, Karate was developed seven centuries ago on the island of Okinawa. Kara means empty and te means hands, which means empty hands, no weapons.
Established in 1988, the Meghalaya Judo Association currently has over 300 students. Further, All Meghalaya Karate Association was established in 1981. It has over 500 students currently enrolled. Students of both the organizations have participated in national and international championships.
Both the Associations will conduct demonstrations and workshop to encourage more and more people to learn Judo and Karate for their overall improvement.
People of all ages particularly students are encouraged to come and witness the demonstrations and learn a few techniques in the workshop. 

Cosplay Lecture, Performance, Workshop, Anime Trivia Games








 

Kogarashi Invitee cosplayers will entertain the audience with a special performance. They present Kurumi (Date a Live), Hatsune Miku, Mandalorian male/female Warrior (Star Wars).

Participate in fun interactive anime quiz session and win prizes.

You can also interact with the organizing team and cosplay artists.
 
Japanese Language Workshops
Japan Foundation New Delhi will conduct workshops for students to introduce Japanese culture in a fun way, through activities like quizzes and hiragana-karuta cards.
 
Trying Yukata, Calligraphy and Origami






Yukata is made of cotton with simple designs. It’s a comfortable wear for summers. Try your hands on these traditional Japanese clothings.
Calligraphy is the art of writing beautifully. The writer practices for years to mastering the art, such as, order of strokes in a character, perfect alignment of characters, etc. It is believed one can learn the writer’s character by looking at his writings. Try your hand at this Japanese art of writing.
Origami is the art of paper folding. It is popular all over the world. Its favourite pastime for kids, adults, etc. Try your hand at Origami
 
 
AWARD-WINNING ANIME FILM SCREENINGS:

Ride Your Wave (96 min/Dir: Yuasa Masaaki)
The romance between a young firefighter and a female university student is depicted in this coming-of-age love story. Yuasa Masaaki, who won the Cristal for Best Animated Feature at the 41st Annecy International Animation Film Festival for Lu Over the Wall directs this original feature animation. The movie won various awards globally.


Penguin Highway (119 min/Dir: Ishida Hiroyasu)
An animated sci-fi fantasy adapting Morimi Tomihiko's identically titled novel. Studio Colorido, known for Typhoon Noruda, makes its first feature length animation. The movie takes us into the mystical world of the  fourth-grader Aoyama (voice: Kita Kana), who is up for an adventure when penguins suddenly appear in their suburban town. The movie was screened at various prestigious film festivals globally.


Okko’s Inn (94 min/Dir: Kosaka Kitaro)
Theatrical film anime adaptation of a popular piece of children's literature that has sold over 3 million copies in total. Directed by Kosaka Kitaro of NASU: SUMMER IN ANDALUSIA with script by Yoshida Reiko of Lu over the wall.
Sixth-grader Okko (Kobayashi Seiran) loses her parents in a traffic accident and is taken in by her grandma, who runs the Harunoya inn. Soon Okko begins training to work as the mistress of the inn, and she grows up day-to-day with encouragement from a ghost named Uribo (Matsuda Satsumi) and other mysterious pals. The movie was screened at various prestigious film festivals globally and also has a few awards to its name.



Children of the Sea (111 min/Dir: Watanabe Ayumu)
In an alternate timeline, post-World War II Japan has been divided and occupied by two rival powers. Hokkaido has been annexed by the "UNION" while Honshu and the other southern islands have come under U.S. occupation. Watch the movie to find out about the journey of 3 young children Hiroki, Takuya and Sayuri who become fascinated by a gigantic yet mysterious tower and how they are destined to do so. The movie was the offcial selection at various prestigious film festivals globally and also has a few awards to its name.

Anime Drawing Contest
Watch the screening of the four award winning anime movies mentioned above. Participate in the “Anime Drawing Contest” and win prizes. All you have to do is:
1. Draw a character you liked in the 1st movie. Submit your drawings before the beginning of the 2nd movie. Top 3 will be announced at the end of 2nd movie and will receive small but cute prizes.
2.Similar contest will be held for 2nd movie, result announced in 3rd movie, and for 3rd movie, result announced in 4th movie.
 
Visit wearing your own costumes of your favorite Japanese Anime character & get a chance to appear on our SNS channels/win surprising prizes
