Inauguration Ceremony of Construction of a Skill Development Center in Baran, Rajasthan
2019/6/20
The inauguration ceremony of “The Project for Construction of Skill Development Center for Women and Youth in Baran, Rajasthan”, under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP), will be held on 25th June 2019, at Baran, Rajasthan.
The ceremony will be attended by Ms. Nirmala Saharia, Member of the Legislative Assembly, Rajasthan, Mr. Manish Singh, Executive Director of Centre for Community Economics and Development Consultants Society, the recipient organization of this grant, and Mr. Kiyoshi Kurihara, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in India.
The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Project scheme was established in 1989 to meet the diverse basic human needs in developing countries. The Government of Japan has supported India in projects such as construction of school buildings, vocational centers, and check dams, as well as provision of medical equipment.
This project, which amounts to a total of approximately 8.4 million Japanese Yen, supported the construction of a skill development center for about 160 women and 300 youth, yearly, in the age group of 18 to 24 years old, in Baran, Rajasthan.
Centre for Community Economics and Development Consultants Society (CECOEDECON), the recipient organization of this project, established in 1981, has been working in a wide range of areas, from environmental conservation to education, for social and economic development of the underprivileged and ethnic minorities. There has been an increasing need for vocational training in fields such as food-processing, electrician, welder, and so on, for poor women and youth, in order for them to become socially and economically independent. However, the organization was not being able to meet the demand due to a lack of enough space to provide vocational training.
This project, through the construction of a skill development center for women and youths, will enable the organization to provide vocational training to expand their participation in the society.
The Government of Japan hopes that this project will contribute to promote self-sustainability of the socially vulnerable women and youths in the community, helping to improve the socio-economic condition and living environment of the people in the project areas, and will further develop the friendly and cooperative relationship between Japan and India.
