Ambassador Hiramatsu’s Visit to Gujarat

From 22 to 24 May, Ambassador Kenji Hiramatsu made a visit to the state of Gujarat.
 
On May 23, Ambassador Hiramatsu visited the city of Ahmedabad and had a meeting with Mr. Gautambhai Navalchand Shah, Mayor of Ahmedabad. Ahmedabad is one of the cities designated under the ‘Smart Cities’ initiative by the Government of India and the Government of Japan expresses support for this project in Ahmedabad
 
During the meeting, Ambassador Hiramatsu stated that the Government of Japan will support the ‘Smart city’ projects in Ahmedabad (Link to Japan’s cooperation). Mayor Shah expressed his appreciation to Ambassdor Hiramatasu, and participants from Ahmedabad explained the overview of various projects related to the ‘Smart city’ initiative in Ahmedabad.



On the same day, Ambassador Kenji Hiramatsu visited the factory of automobile company Suzuki in Gujarat.



On May 24, Ambassador Hiramatsu visited Gandhinagar, capital of Gujarat, and had a meeting with Mr. Vijay Rupani, Chief Minister of Gujarat.
Ambassador Hiramatsu stated that major Japanese companies are operating in Gujarat; hence, Gujarat is an important state for Japan. In addition, Ambassador Hiramatsu expressed his expectation to strengthen the relationship between Japan and Gujarat.

Chief Minister Rupani stated, mentioning the current warm relationship between Japan and India, that the Government of Gujarat would like to support the further development of this cordial relationship.

During the meeting, they discussed various issues, such as business environment for Japanese corporations, economic cooperation, and cultural exchanges between Japan and India.



On the same day, Ambassador Hiramatsu attended the Japan-AfDB (Africa Development Bank) Forum, which is a side event of the AfDB Annual Meeting, held at Gandhinagar.

In his closing speech, Ambassador Hiramatsu stated that great synergy is expected to emerge between Japan’s technology and capital, and India’s strong network in Africa, for the economic development of Africa.
