2017/3/17
Do you know what "Mottainai" means?
On March 16, children from 8 schools of Delhi area learned it at the book-reading event of "Mottainai Dadi Ma" series, which was co-organized by the Embassy of Japan, JICA and Kodansha (the original Japanese publishing company of these books). "Mottainai" is the thoughtful Japanese word denoting “with love and compassion to thank for the gift from the nature or for someone who made the product”. Its closest expression in English is "what a waste!" or "do not waste". More than 160 children enthusiastically heard Dr. Varsha Das reading out the books, asked many questions to Ms. Mariko Shinju, the author of the book series, and enjoyed the drawings. At the end of the event, Mr. Yutaka Kikuta, Charge d’Affaires ad interim, Embassy of Japan, encouraged the children to share the spirit of "Mottainai" with their families and friends.
