The Japan Foundation has been holding The Asian Cartoon Exhibition every year since 1995, for introducing Asian societies, cultures, and peoples’ ways of life from various perspectives. The theme of the present exhibition is “Asian Environmental Issues”. Ten leading cartoonists from 10 different Asian countries have produced several works on the environmental problems characteristic of each nation.

Dr Anu Jindal will display her works featuring flowering trees in Spring. Some art works will portray Sakura-Cherry blossoms while others will show blossoming Indian trees. The aim is to highlight the Japanese custom of “Hanami” and how a similar appreciation can be made in Indian context.

Japan is not just home to an immense number of potters and ceramics artists, but also has a large population highly knowledgeable about and appreciative of pottery. This exhibition introduces some of the promising artists who are producing notable contemporary works in the ceramic genre. Focusing on “vessels”, the exhibition illustrates how artists understand the functions of a vessel in an attempt to grasp the nature of Japanese pottery today. The artists selected are among the most active in Japan. The pottery on display are from Arita, and Karatsu, Hagi, Bizen, Kyoto vicinity and Tamba, Kutani and Kanazawa, Seto and Mino, Tokyo vicinity and Mashiko.
