“VANISHING POINTS”: JAPANESE CONTEMPORARY ART EXHIBITION

The project will comprise three elements: 1. An exhibition at the National Gallery of Modern Art in New Delhi, 2. Artist-in-residence programs in several cities in India, and 3. Exhibitions at galleries in Mumbai.

In New Delhi, the exhibition “Vanishing Points” will introduce Japanese contemporary art with an emphasis on social background and physical conditions. At the same time, three artists and one artist team will be in different cities of India and produce their works based on their observations of how they perceive India. Then their perceptions of India and some works of Japanese Contemporary Art will be exhibited in different galleries of Mumbai.

The Centre for Japanese, Korean and North East Asian Studies (CJKNEAS) of the Jawaharlal Nehru University will hold the 3rd International Seminar on Japanese Literature. Renowned scholars from Japan and India will present their research papers in the seminar. Scholars and students will also hold panel discussions. The aim of the seminar is to promote interest in Japanese literature in India. The event will be held in collaboration with National Institute of Japanese Literature, Tokyo.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) will co-host a symposium titled “Japan-India Strategic Partnership in the Era of Asian Regional Integration”. This symposium has been alternately held in Tokyo and New Delhi since 2003, and this year’s symposium is the fourth one of its series.
The symposium will be held on the following themes of discussion:
1. Overall prospects for regional integration in Asia (ideology, principles and basic strategy),
2. Measures for promoting regional cooperation in East Asia and Asia-Pacific in the fields of politics, security, economy and social issues, and the role of Japan and India,
3. Future prospects for promoting regional cooperation in South Asia and the role of Japan and India,
4. Junction of regional integration movements between East Asia, Asia-Pacific and South Asia, and the prospects of building a ‘Pan-Asian Community’.
Speakers of the symposium will include political and business leaders as well as prominent academics from Japan and India. Some speakers from other countries will also join the symposium.
