1. The handover ceremony of the ‘The Project for Procurement of Transfer Bus for Women’s Shelter Home in Wangsisna, Thimphu’ under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme, will be held on 9th May 2022, at Thimphu, Bhutan.
The ceremony will be attended by Dr. Meenakashi, Director of Program and Service of the RENEW, representing the recipient organization of this grant, as well as Mr. YAMASHITA Hiroyuki, First Secretary, and Mr. HOSAKA Shun, Second Secretary, Economic Section, from the Embassy of Japan.
This project, with funding assistance amount to around 8.7 million Yen, supports the purchase of a bus for a women’s shelter home run by RENEW and improve the access to hospital and vocational training center for those sheltered in their facility.
This project enables the socially marginalized women living at the shelter to visit the hospital safely and visit vocational training centers to acquire income-generating skills, thereby promoting socio-economic independence of women in Bhutan. Furthermore, it is expected that this project will bring a drastic change in people’s awareness towards gender-based violence.
