Grant Aid Assistance for Bhutan – Handover ceremony of ‘The Project for Improving Solid Waste Management’
2022/4/22
On 22nd April 2022, a handover ceremony for ‘The Project for Improving Solid Waste Management financed by Japan’s grant assistance was held in Thimphu.
H.E Mr. Tandi Dorji, Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Royal Government of Bhutan, attended the ceremony, while Mr. KAWAZU Kunihiko, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of Japan to Bhutan attended this event virtually.
This project aims to support and improve the local governments' efforts of solid waste management by providing Bhutan with modern equipment necessary for effective waste disposal. Today, around 60 such equipment like containers and bulldozers, amounting to 509 million Yen, were handed over.
These machines will be used for improving solid waste disposal services in four major cities of Bhutan, including Thimphu. We hope that this assistance will contribute to mitigating Bhutan’s vulnerability to urban environmental degradation by improving the living conditions in the country.
Japan will continue to extend its assistance for the economic development of Bhutan by supporting its various needs through the effective combination of Grant Aid, TCP, GGP, and ODA Loans.
