General Grant Aid Assistance for Bhutan - Handover ceremony of ‘The Economic and Social Development Programme’

2021/7/2
On 2nd July 2021, a handover ceremony for ‘The Economic and Social Development Programme’ financed by Japan’s grant assistance was held in Thimphu.

Dasho Dr. Pandup Tshering, Secretary of Ministry of Health in Bhutan, attended the ceremony, while Mr. MIYAMOTO Shingo, Minister (Economic & Development) from the Embassy of Japan joined this event virtually.

This project aims to strengthen the medical and health environment in Bhutan through provision of medical equipment. Today, as a part of this project, 11 portable ultrasound scanners, amounting to a total of 23 million Yen, were handed over to several hospitals in Bhutan.

These scanners will be utilized for examination and monitoring for COVID-19 related pneumonia and cardiomyopathy, making early diagnosis possible and improving the medical circumstances for COVID-19 patients in Bhutan.

Moreover, taking advantage of the portability of the equipment, they will be used not only within hospitals but also in on-site medical examination for those living in remote areas with less access to medical services.

It is expected that this project will be a useful contribution to the efforts of Bhutan to fight against COVID-19, and strengthen further the friendship and cooperation between Japan and Bhutan.
