JAPAN WEEK 2017 in Bhutan

The Embassy of Japan, Japan Foundation New Delhi, and JICA Bhutan Office, jointly conducted the “JAPAN WEEK 2017 in Bhutan”, in Thimphu and Paro, from June 2nd to June 5th.
The Opening Event, held on June 2nd at Clock Tower in Thimphu, with the gracious presence of Her Imperial Highness Princess Mako of Akishino, was inaugurated by the Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bhutan, Mr. Kenji Hiramatsu. Thereafter, the chief guest, Honourable Lyonpo Damcho Dorji, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bhutan, made his remarks.
This was followed by a Judo and Karate demonstration by the Bhutan Judo Association and Bhutan Karate Association. A Japanese song performance by Pelkhil School, and Japanese folk performing arts “Magisawa Kagura” were also showcased on the occasion.

In the Opening Ceremony of the Japan Week, which was held on the same day, HIH Princess Mako of Akishino delivered a few words, following the opening remarks by Ambassador Hiramatsu, in the gracious presence of Her Royal Highness Princess Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuck.
On June 4th, a Japanese short film screening was held at City Cinema in Thimphu, in which 4 short films directed by Japanese film directors, namely, “Can & Sulochan”, “Color of Life”, “Half & Half”, and “Pieces of the Future”, were screened.
On June 5th, an interactive session on Japan and short film screening was held at Yangchenphug Higher Secondary School in Thimphu.
