Japan Week in Bhutan 2016

The Embassy of Japan, Japan Foundation New Delhi, and JICA Bhutan Office, jointly organized the Japan Week in Bhutan, from September 24th to October 1st, 2016, in Thimphu. Mr. Katsuyuki Kawai, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, and Hon’ble Lyonpo Jigme Zangpo, Speaker of the National Assembly of Bhutan, attended the Opening Ceremony, which was held at the Clock Tower, Thimphu.
In the Opening Ceremony, Gyozan School Maikawa Shishi Odori performed the Japanese traditional Deer Dance, and collaborated with the Royal Academy of Performing Arts (RAPA), in Part 1 of the ceremony.
Thereafter, members of the Bhutan Centre for Japanese Studies performed some Japanese songs in Part 2 of the ceremony.
Finally, in Part 3: Sports Exchange, representative from J.LEAGUE (Professional Japanese Soccer League), handed over soccer balls and sportswear to the representative of Bhutan Football Federation. After that, members of Bhutan Judo Association and Bhutan Karate Association presented a Judo and Karate demonstration.
On September 24th evening, the Reception for the opening of Japan Week was held with the attendance of Mr. Katsuyuki Kawai, Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Japan, Hon’ble Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay, Prime Minister of Bhutan, Hon’ble Lyonpo Yeshey Dorji, Minister for Agriculture and Forests of Bhutan, and Hon’ble Lyonpo Lekey Dorji, Minister for Economic Affairs of Bhutan.
Besides the above programmes, Soccer School was presented by J. LEAGUE (on September 24th and 25th), Japanese Film Show (on September 25th, 28th, 29th), Interactive Session on Japan (on September 26th), Japanese Language Proficiency Trial Test (on September 30th), and Japanese Language Seminar (October 1), were also conducted during the Japan Week.
