2024/7/25
The handover ceremony of ‘The Project for Provision of Patrol Cars to Community Police Centers in Tashigang and Zhemgang’ under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme, will be held on 30 July 2024, at Thimphu, Bhutan.

The ceremony will be inaugurated by Major General Chimi Dorji, Hon’ble Chief of Police, Royal Bhutan Police, representing the recipient organization of this grant and Ms. HOKUGO Kyoko, Minister (Economic & Development), from the Embassy of Japan.

The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project scheme was established in 1989 to meet the diverse basic human needs in developing countries. The Government of Japan has been supporting Bhutan in various projects, such as the construction of small bridges and school hostels, the rehabilitation of irrigation channels, the procurement of vehicles tailored to local needs and fire engines.

This project, which amounts to approximately 8.98 million Japanese Yen, provides two patrol cars to the Royal Bhutan Police, allocated to Rangjung Community Police Center (CPC) in Tashigang and Tingtibi CPC in Zhemgang, enabling them to address the challenges posed by aging patrol cars.

The Government of Japan hopes that this project will help maintain and strengthen public safety in these areas, contributing to ensuring the safety of residents in their daily lives. We look forward to developing the friendly and cooperative relationship between Japan and Bhutan even further.
