2024/5/21
On May 20, Mr. SUZUKI Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Bhutan, and His Excellency Mr. Vetsop Namgyel, Ambassador of Bhutan to Japan, exchanged notes in New Delhi concerning the provision of the grant aid for the Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship (total provision of the grant is up to 204 million yen).

Details of the project are as follows:

“The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship”
Maximum Amount: 204 million yen

This project provides scholarship to young public service officers in Bhutan which will help them to earn either Master’s degree or PhD degree from higher educational institutions in Japan.

The Project for Human Resource Development Scholarship began in 2018 and is currently in its seventh year. At present thirteen young public service officers from various government agencies of Bhutan are studying in Japan, pursuing Master’s or PhD courses at Japanese universities.

As of now, twenty-eight Bhutanese scholarship students who received master’s degree through this project returned to Bhutan. They are now actively working in Bhutan, by making use of the knowledge and experiences they gained not only through research activities but also through their daily life in Japan.

It is expected that this project will help improve policy capacity of the Bhutanese government and further contribute to the strengthening of friendship and cooperation that cordially exists between the two countries.
