Handover Ceremony of ‘The Project for the provision of medical equipment and a medical van for the early detection of cervical cancer in women in far flung areas of Bhutan’

2022/10/26

We are delighted to announce that the handover ceremony of ‘The Project for the provision of medical equipment and a medical van for the early detection of cervical cancer in women in far flung areas of Bhutan’ under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme, was held on October 26, 2022, at Thimphu, Bhutan.

Ms. Thinley Dem, the Board Member of the Bhutan Cancer Society, representing the recipient organization of this grant, as well as Ms. HOKUGO Kyoko, Minister (Economic and Development), from the Embassy of Japan attended the ceremony.

This project received funding of approximately 9.36 million Yen, and it will support the purchase of a medical vehicle and equipment and encourage the early detection of cervical cancer and early medical treatment for women in remote areas of Bhutan, who did not have access to such tests and treatments earlier.

The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project scheme was established in 1989 to meet the diverse basic human needs of developing countries. The Government of Japan has been supporting Bhutan in various projects, such as construction of bridges, provision of fire engines and compactor trucks.

The Government of Japan hopes that this project will contribute towards reducing the mortality rate in Bhutan. We hope to further strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Japan and Bhutan.
