2022/9/16
We are delighted to announce the handover ceremony of ‘The Project for Reconstruction of Irrigation Channels in Jamkhar Gewog, Trashiyangtse’ under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) scheme.

The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project scheme was established in 1989 to meet the diverse basic human needs of developing countries. The Government of Japan has been supporting Bhutan in various projects of similar kind, such as construction of bridges, provision of fire engines and compactor trucks.

The handover ceremony of ‘The Project for Reconstruction of Irrigation Channels in Jamkhar Gewog, Trashiyangtse’ under the GGP scheme, will be held online on September 21, 2022.

The ceremony will be attended by Dasho Baburam Sherpa, Gup of Jamkhar Gewog, Trashiyangste Dzongkhag, representing the recipient organization of this grant, as well as Ms. HOKUGO Kyoko, Minister (Economic and Development), from the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi.

This project received funding of approximately 8.3 million Yen and it aims at re-constructing the old irrigation channels, which were almost non-functional, into concrete ones.

The Government of Japan hopes that this project will contribute to securing sufficient agriculture water in the area resulting in a significant increase in crop yields. We further hope that this will directly benefit the lives of poor farmers.

We look forward to strengthening the friendly and cooperative relationship between Japan and Bhutan.
