On March 30, 2005 (Wednesday), the Government of
Japan and the United Nations (UN) decided to extend
an assistance of total of 1,017,000 dollars (approximately

In India, every third child is said to be born
underweight and around half of the pre-school children
suffer from under nutrition. Also, women often
encounter greater discrimination to obtain access
to education and health services, and suffer from
lack of employment opportunities. This project
will assist women in the villages of Koraput, Banwara
and Surguja, in setting up Women Self Help Groups
(WSHGs). WSHGs will help village women participate
in the following activities:
(1) Extending support to Integrated Child Development Service
(ICDS)
(2) Extending support to Mid Day Meal Scheme (MDM)
(3) Extending support to Health Sub-Centre
(4) Establishing Grain Banks
3.
The project is expected to facilitate women’s participation
in community activities as well as to empower the
targeted communities.
