Statement by the Press Secretary/Director-General for
Press and Public Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs,
on the Terrorist Attacks in Northeastern States in India

Tokyo, 5 October 2004

1. The Government of Japan strongly condemns the series of attacks which claimed many innocent civilian lives in Assam and Nagaland, India, between 2 and 4 October.  The Government of Japan expresses its deep sorrow over the people who were killed by these attacks and extends its sincere condolences to the bereaved families and the people of India.
   
   
2. The Government of Japan reaffirms its position that terrorism cannot be justified, whatever its form, and reiterates its resolute condemnation against terrorism.
