September, 2013
Professor Ryoji Noyori, President of RIKEN, Japan’s premier research institute, visited India on 13-17 September 2013 to accelerate collaboration with research institutes and universities in India.
Professor Noyori signed the Memoranda of Understanding with Department of Science and Technology (DST) and Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India, and launched two virtual Joint Research Centres in Bangalore; the first one in the field of biological sciences with National Centre for Biological Sciences (NCBS), and the second one in the fields of material science and life science with Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) and Indian Institute of Sciences (IISc).
Professor Noyori who is also a Nobel Laureate in Chemistry gave memorial lectures entitled ‘Science Shapes Our Future’ to young scientists and students, both in Delhi and Bangalore.
We strongly hope that Professor Noyori’s visit and RIKEN’s new initiative will fructify into deeper scientific exchange and herald a new era of Japan-India scientific collaboration.
