Government of Japan extends ¥ 110 million Grant Assistance to Bhutan for the Food Security Project for Underprivileged Farmers 2013 (KR2-2013)


The Government of Japan agreed today to extend a grant assistance of 110 million yen (approximately 1.1 million US dollars) to the Royal Government of Bhutan for “the Food Security Project for Underprivileged Farmers 2013 (KR2-2013)”. The Exchange of Notes to formalize the grant assistance was conducted at the Embassy of Japan, New Delhi. The Notes were signed and exchanged between H.E. Mr. Takeshi Yagi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bhutan, and H.E. Mr. Vetsop Namgyel, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan to Japan.

Consistent introduction of agriculture machines such as power tillers are an integral part of Bhutan’s Five Year Plan in the area of agriculture and rural development. This project will provide small agricultural machines to small-scale farmers in order to increase the food production through mechanization. Japan has been supporting agricultural mechanization in Bhutan for over three decades through this KR2 projects.
