GOVERNMENT OF JAPAN PLEDGES
1ST BATCH OF ODA LOANS FOR FY2008 TO INDIA
- Japan will extend soft loans to 5 projects
- The total amount for this batch reaches 104,656 million yen
|

- Mr. Masahiko Koumura, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, has pledged to extend to the Government of India, Japanese ODA Loans for the five projects indicated below. This pledge is for the first batch of FY2008, amounting to 104,656 million yen in total.
- Punjab Biomass Power Plant Project (5,637 million yen)
This project will build small-size power plants in the Punjab state, which consumes biomass as its fuel.
- Chennai Metro Project (21,751 million yen)
This project will establish a mass rapid transport system (about 45km) in the city region of Chennai in the Tamil Nadu state, in the form of metro and elevated railways.
- Hyderabad Outer Ring Road Project (Phase 2) (42,027 million yen)
This project will construct the northeast part of outer ring road (about 33 km) in Hyderabad in the Andhra Pradesh state.
- Capacity Development for Forest Management and Personnel Training Project (5,241 million yen)
This project aims to improve the training capacity of the state government’s forest management authorities (10 states), by the means of improving the contents of forest management training and renovating aging facilities.
- Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Energy Saving Project (30,000 million yen)
This project aims to promote energy saving activities of micro, small and medium enterprises by the means of offering medium and long-term loans specially designed for energy saving to those companies, and improving the financing ability of the implementing agency.
- The Government of Japan and the Government of India will sign and exchange the Notes later on, to formalize the agreement of this ODA loan package.
