Japanese Government handed over 152 power tillers to the Royal Government of
Bhutan through grant assistance “KR II"


1. The Government of Japan has handed over power tillers to the Royal Government of Bhutan under “Underprivileged Farmers (KR II) 2012” totaling 110 million Yen (roughly 1.1 million US dollars) grant assistance. Mr. Takeshi Yagi, Ambassador of Japan to the Kingdom of Bhutan attended the handing-over ceremony of the project in Paro on 21 July 2014.

2. The Government of Japan has been supporting Bhutan’s efforts of farm mechanization by providing 2,795 power tillers through twenty-three KR II projects since 1984. New 152 power tillers have been handed-over to the Royal Government of Bhutan.

3. The Government of Japan hopes that this grant assistance would contribute to achieving Bhutan’s food security and economic growth through activation of agriculture of Bhutan by improving agriculture productivity, as well as to further strengthening of the friendly and cooperative relationship between Japan and Bhutan.
