Japanese Government to hand over Rural Road Construction Machineries and Equipment to the Royal Government of Bhutan, through “the Project for Improvement of Machinery and Equipment for Construction of Rural Agricultural Road (Phase 2)"


1. The Government of Japan will hand over Rural Road Construction Machineries and Equipment to the Royal Government of Bhutan, through “the Project for Improvement of Machinery and Equipment for Construction of Rural Agricultural Road (Phase 2)” amounting to 567 million yen grant assistance (approximately 6 million US dollars). Mr. Suzuki, First Secretary, Embassy of Japan in New Delhi, will attend the hand-over ceremony at Bumthang, on 7 March 2011.

2. Under the project, 20 Hydraulic Excavators, 5 Vibration Rollers, 3 Mobile Workshop Vans, 1 Semi Trailer, etc., will be provided to the Central Machinery Unit (CMU), Bumthang, under the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests.

3. The Government of Japan hopes that this grant assistance would help in the development of rural area, as envisaged in the 10th Five Year Plan, as well as contribute to further strengthening of the friendly relationship between Japan and Bhutan.
