Government of Japan extends US$80,309 Grant Assistance for the Fire Service Division, Royal Bhutan Police Headquarters for its Grassroots Project


1. The Embassy of Japan in India, under its scheme “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects”, today decided to extend grant assistance totaling US$80,309 (approximately equivalent to Nu. 36 lakh) to the Fire Service Division, Royal Bhutan Police Headquarters, to support the acquisition of four fire engines to strengthen the fire fighting services. The recipient and project receiving the Grant is as follows:


The Fire Service Division, Royal Bhutan Police Headquarters
has been working to improve the fire fighting services in Bhutan. Due to a pressing demand for additional fire engines in 4 districts facing an increase in fire disasters, the Government of Japan decided to provide four recycled fire engines through Saitama Prefecture, with the support of Society for Promotion of Japanese Diplomacy, to improve its fire control services. To this end, the Embassy of Japan has decided to grant assistance of US$80,309 for the proposed project.

2. The Signing Ceremony to formalize the arrangements will take place at 10:00hrs., on Thursday, 3rd March 2011, at the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi, between Mr. Hajime Hayashi, Chargé d’Affaires, Embassy of Japan and H. E. Mr. Vetsop Namgyel, Ambassador of Bhutan to India.
