New Delhi: 1 March 2006

The Embassy of Japan and the Consulate-Generals of Japan at Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai have started to accept applications from Indian youth for the 2006 Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan has decided to expand the JET Programme in India and to recruit more Indian youths to advance friendly relations between Japan and India.

The Japan Exchange and Teaching (JET) Programme seeks to help enhance internationalization in Japan, by promoting mutual understanding between Japan and other nations. The Programme aims to enhance foreign language education in Japan, and to promote international exchange at the local level through fostering ties between Japanese youth and foreign youth.

The JET Programme offers highly qualified college/university graduates opportunities to work as either Assistant Language Teachers (ALT) in elementary and secondary schools or Coordinators for International Relations (CIR) in selected local government offices in Japan.
