JAPAN HONOURS FORMER AMBASSADOR OF INDIA
IN CONFERRING THE DECORATION
New Delhi, 22 November 2004

The Government of Japan officially announced on Wednesday, November 3, 2004, that it would honour Mr. Arjun G. Asrani, former Ambassador of India to Japan, with the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the furtherance of friendly relations between Japan and India. The decoration is conferred upon Mr. Asrani by His Majesty the Emperor of Japan.

          H.E. Mr. Yasukuni Enoki, Ambassador of Japan, will host a ceremony at the Ambassador’s Residence, Embassy of Japan, on Tuesday, November 23, 2004, for the presentation of the decoration.

          Mr. Arjun G. Asrani has served in the Embassy of India in Tokyo as many as three times. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1957 and started his career as a diplomat of the Indian Embassy in Tokyo in 1960 after his training course at Oxford University. He retired from the Government of India as Ambassador of India to Japan in 1992. He has been making tremendous contribution to the furtherance of friendly relations between Japan and India as a citizen of India and a friend of Japan since his retirement from the Government of India.
