Japanese Government to complete the reinforcement of Riverbanks at Paro Dzongkhg, Bhutan, under Japanese Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects


1. The Government of Japan will complete the reinforcement of riverbanks of Duchu and Pachu rivers in Paro trough “The Project for the River Training Works at Hungrel, Paro Dzongkhag”, under Japanese Grant Assistance Grassroots Projects, totaling US$91,867 (approximately equivalent to Nu.41 lacs). H. E. Mr. Hideaki Domichi, Ambassador of Japan to Kingdom of Bhutan, will attend the ceremony for the completion of the projects in Paro, Thimpu, on 31st January, 2011.

2. Under the project, the 560 meters riverbanks of Duchu and Pachu rivers, which were seriously damaged by the cyclone Aila in May 2009, have been reinforced.

3. The Government of Japan hopes that the reinforcement of the riverbanks would secure the lives of people in Hungrel Gewog by protecting houses, farm land, Dzong and temples located below the damaged riverbanks, and to help toward disaster prevention in the region.
