JAPAN-INDIA
FRIENDSHIP YEAR 2007
During the summit meeting between the Japanese Prime Minister,
Mr. Junichiro Koizumi, and the Indian Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan
Singh, in New Delhi, in April 2005, both had agreed on an Eight-fold
Initiative for strengthening Japan-India Global Partnership. One
of the important items of the Eight-fold Initiative is to hold
Japan-India FriendshipYear 2007 to commemorate the 50th Anniversary
of the Cultural Agreement signed between Japan and India. As part
of the celebrations, we are planning to organize a variety of events,
which include:
• Traditional Noh Theatre Performance, Takarazuka Revue (all-women) Performance,
Wadaiko (Drum) Performance, Tea Ceremony by Urasenke Chado School, Ikebana Demonstration,
Japanese Contemporary Art Exhibition, etc.
• Lecture Series focusing on Indo-Japan relations from ancient times to
the present day (one lecture a month).
• Japan will also participate in CII’s “IETF 2007” as
the “Partner Country”.
