LECTURE ON JAPANESE
TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE & GARDENS BY YOSHIAKI NAKAMURA
AND YASUO KITAYAMA
Japan is a
long stretching country from North to South and her climate
and environmental surroundings has influenced traditionally
Japanese Architecture. Summers in most of Japan are hot,
and humid, a fact that is clearly reflected in the way
homes are built. The traditional house is raised somewhat
so that the air can move around and beneath it. Wood is
the material of choice because it is cool in summer, warm
in winter, and more flexible when subjected to earthquakes.
Japanese gardens possess a compositional beauty
derived from blending of natural plantings, sand, water and rock, made unique
by the natural beauty of Japan’s landscape and seasonal change.
Yoshiaki Nakamura, famous architect, and Yasuo
Kitayama, famous gardening artist, from Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan,
will present intricacies and nuances of Japanese traditional architecture and
gardens by using exhaustive audio-visual means. |
