The First Joint Committee on Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor
The First Joint Committee on Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor was held
on 14th February, 2016, in Mumbai, on the occasion of the“Make in India Week”.
During Prime Minister Abe’s visit to India in December 2015, Japan and India
confirmed that the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High Speed Rail Corridor would be developed
with the use of Japanese High Speed Rail Technologies and decided to form the
high-level joint committee for this purpose. The Committee is headed by Mr. Hiroto
Izumi, Special Advisor to Prime Minister Abe on the Japanese side, and by Dr. Arvind
Panagariya, Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog on the Indian side, with the participation of
high-ranking officials at the Secretary level from the concerned ministries of both
governments. The participants discussed cooperation in the field of finance, technology
and human resource development. The Committee decided that the target month of the
second Joint Committee would be May 2016, with meetings at the Joint Secretarial
level to be held in between. The Government of Japan continues to cooperate with the
Government of India for the early implementation of the Japanese High Speed Rail
Technologies in the High Speed Rail Corridor between Mumbai and Ahmedabad.
