Mr. Mayeda, currently Professor Emeritus, University of Tokyo, is an expert on eastern philosophy, with specialization in Indian philosophy and Buddhism. He was born in 1931, in Nagoya, Japan. After completing his M.A. in philosophy in 1957 from the Dept. of Indian Philosophy, University of Tokyo, he followed it with a doctorate in the subject in 1962. He simultaneously studied at the Dept. of Oriental Studies, University of Pennsylvania, and obtained a doctorate in philosophy in 1961. In his professional career since 1961, he has taught philosophy in various prestigious universities such as the University of Pennsylvania, University of Tokyo and Musashino University.

In his lecture, Mr. Mayeda will explain about the Indian ideas rooted in Japanese mind.
