The signing ceremony of documents for three grant assistance projects towards Bhutan, under Japan’s ODA scheme, namely,  Grant Contracts (G/Cs) for “The Project for Provision of Patrol Cars to Community Police Centers in Trongsa and Mongar”, “The Project for Improvement of All Weather Farm Road”, and “The Project for Establishment of “Centre of Genekha District for Community Based Care (C4CBC)” for people living with HIV/AIDS in Thimphu”, will be held on 5th March 2019, at the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi.

In this ceremony, the G/Cs for the above-mentioned projects will be signed between H.E. Mr. Kenji Hiramatsu, Ambassador of Japan to Bhutan, and H.E. Maj. Gen. Vetsop Namgyel, Ambassador of Bhutan to Japan.

The total amount of the three projects is around 24 million Yen. Details of each project are as follows:

(1) “The Project for Provision of Patrol Cars to Community Police Centers in Trongsa and Mongar” (Recipient Organization: Royal Bhutan Police)
This project, the amount of which totals around 7.8 million Yen, supports the purchase of a patrol car to each community police center, namely, Langthel in Trongsa, and Yadi in Mongar, and contributes to improving policing operations in the respective communities.

(2) “The Project for Improvement of All Weather Farm Road” (Recipient Organization: Guma Gewog, Punakha)
This project, the amount of which totals around 7.2 million Yen, renovates the current farm roads with black concrete topping and retaining walls, and enables people in the remote village to have easy access to the market, schools, and hospitals, under all conditions, regardless of weather conditions.

(3) “The Project for Establishment of “Centre of Genekha District for Community Based Care (C4CBC)” for people living with HIV/AIDS in Thimphu” (Recipient Organization: LhakSam)
This project, the amount of which totals around 9 million Yen, constructs a new large-scale community care center in addition to an existing center which does not have enough space, so that the HIV/AIDS patients receiving treatment there are able to continue receiving proper treatment, and enable them to do income generating activities.

The Government of Japan hopes that these 3 new grant projects will help to reinforce the quality of living standard of the people in Bhutan by improving public safety, infrastructure development and medical environment, and further strengthen the friendship and cooperation, as well as expand the people-to-people exchanges between Japan and Bhutan.
