Inauguration Ceremony of Agricultural Research Center in Zhemgang
2018/2/2
The inauguration ceremony of the ‘Project for the Construction of RNR Centre for Subtropical Horticulture Development in Panbhang, Zhemgang’, under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP), will be held on 9th February 2018, at Panbhang, Zhemgang, Bhutan.
The ceremony will be attended by Mr. Ngawang, Program Director, ARDC Agriculture Research & Development Center (ARDC), Samtenling, Sarpang (Old Name: Renewable Natural Resource Research and Development Centre, Bhur, Gelephu), the recipient organization of this grant, and relevant officials of the Royal Government of Bhutan, as well as Mr. Kenko Sone, Minister (Economic & Development), from the Embassy of Japan.
The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project scheme was established in 1989 to meet the diverse basic human needs in developing countries. The Government of Japan has supported Bhutan in various projects such as construction of bridges, as well as provision of fire engines and compactor trucks.
This project, with a funding assistance amounting to 7 million Yen, aims to construct a research center and a farm irrigation system in order to research and diffuse subtropical horticulture like mango and litchi.
The Government of Japan hopes that this project under the GGP Scheme, through conducting technical guidance for cultivation and providing fresh seedlings to farmers in the target area, will help increase their income. The Government of Japan looks forward to further developing the relations of friendship and cooperation between Japan and Bhutan.
