Inauguration of underground section from Thirumangalam to Nehru Park

On 14th May, the Chennai Metro Rail Project (Phase I), underground section under Corridor 2 (Green line) , from Thrirumangalam to Nehru Park (7.4 km), and 7 underground metro stations, were inaugurated with the support by Japan’s ODA loans, demonstrating Japan’s active support for “Smart City” initiatives in Chennai. The flagging-off ceremony was attended by Shri Edappadi K. Palaniswami, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, and Shri Venkaiah Naidu, Hon’ble Union Minister for Urban Development, Mr.Kenko SONE, Minister (Economic & Development), Embassy of Japan, and Mr.Seiji BABA, Consul-General of Japan in Chennai. Mr.Sone made his congratulatory remarks at the inauguration ceremony.
