Ambassador Hiramatsu Attends the 75th Anniversary Event of the Battle of Kohima
On 4th April, Ambassador Kenji Hiramatsu attended the 75th Anniversary Event of the Battle of Kohima, together with Shri Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister of Nagaland, Sir Dominic Asquith, High Commissioner of the United Kingdom, and other dignitaries. Ambassador Hiramatsu offered his heartfelt prayers to the fallen souls, while appreciating the opportunity presented by the event for reconciliation. Looking towards the future, Ambassador Hiramatsu reiterated his commitment to pursue stronger relations with India’s North East, including the State of Nagaland, through such means as people-to-people exchanges. Ahead of the Anniversary Event, Ambassador Hiramatsu visited and laid flowers at the Kohima War Cemetery. After the Event, Ambassador Hiramatsu held a fruitful meeting with Shri Neiphiu Rio, Chief Minister of Nagaland, and explored ways to further strengthen Japan-Nagaland relations. Ambassador Hiramatsu visited the Kohima Cathedral, where an epitaph donated by the ex-soldiers and bereaved families of the Battle of Kohima is situated. Ambassador Hiramatsu also presented awards to those who have dedicated themselves to the excavation of war remains.
