New Grassroots Grant Assistance Project to be signed in the amount of 14.8 million Yen

The signing ceremony of the Grant Contracts (G/Cs) for “The Project for Establishment of Basic School cum Vocational Training Centre for Underprivileged Children”, and “The Project for Solar PV Plant on the rooftop of Vishnu Bhagwan Public School Hostel Building, Jhalwa, Allahabad” under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP) scheme, will be held on 5th March 2019, at the Embassy of Japan in New Delhi.

In the ceremony, the G/Cs will be signed between H.E. Mr. Kenji Hiramatsu, Ambassador of Japan to India, and the representatives of the recipient organizations.

The Government of Japan offers a financial assistance scheme called “the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP)” for development projects designed to meet the diverse basic human needs of the people in developing countries. Since 1989, the scheme has been supporting relatively small-scaled projects implemented by non-profit organizations, such as, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and educational and medical institutions, through Japanese diplomatic missions in developing countries.

The total amount to be disbursed for the two projects is around 14.8 million Yen. Details of each project are as follows:
 
(1) “The Project for Establishment of Basic School cum Vocational Training Centre for Underprivileged Children”
(Recipient Organization: Huda Educational and Social Welfare Society)
This project, the amount of which totals around 7.3 million Yen, proposes to construct a new school cum vocational training centre for underprivileged children in Amethi, Uttar Pradesh.
 
(2) “The Project for Solar PV Plant on the roof top of Vishnu Bhagwan Public School Hostel Building, Jhalwa, Allahabad”
(Recipient Organization: UTTHAN – Centre for Sustainable Development and Poverty Alleviation)
This project, the amount of which totals around 7.5 million Yen, will support the installation of a solar power generation system on the roof top of the school hostel for scheduled castes and tribes.   
 
The Government of Japan hopes that these grants will help improve the lives of people in the project areas, and further strengthen the friendly relationship and cooperation between Japan and India.
