Ambassador Kenji Hiramatsu attends “Preparatory Meeting of the Global Fund’s Sixth Replenishment”

Ambassador Kenji Hiramatsu attended and delivered keynote address on Universal Health Coverage (UHC) at the “Preparatory Meeting of the Global Fund’s Sixth Replenishment”, hosted by the Global Fund and the Government of India, on 8th February 2019.
In his address, the Ambassador emphasized that efforts to eliminate HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria can contribute to achieving UHC, and raised key factors for its realization. Moreover, he assured that the Government of Japan will take a strong initiative for the promotion of UHC through G20 JAPAN 2019 and TICAD7, chaired by Japan.

The Preparatory Meeting was held ahead of the Pledging Conference to be held in France this October and discussed the mobilization of needed resources to scale up life-saving programs over 2020-22.
As a result of the discussion of the G8 Kyushu-Okinawa Summit held in Japan in 2000, the Global Fund was established as a financial support organization for measures against HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria, in 2002.
