1st Japan India Food Dialogue

On 26 September, the 1st Japan-India Food Dialogue was held. Ambassador Hiramatsu met H.E. Mrs. Badal, Minister for Food Processing Industries, along with 13 leading Japanese food and cold chain companies.
In March 2018, Ambassador Hiramatsu and Minister Badal had agreed to hold regular meetings to promote investments in the field of food processing industries by Japanese food related companies, and based upon this agreement, the first dialogue was held.
Among the companies which participated in this dialogue, after participating in World Food India, the mega food event organized by Ministry of Food Processing Industries of India, last November, in which Japan participated as a Partner Country, Ise Foods Inc., Kagome Co., Ltd., Nissan Steel Industry Co., Ltd., Shinmei Co., Ltd. and Innovation Thru Energy Co., Ltd., decided to launch their business in India.
The stakeholders in India place high expectations towards Japanese food processing technologies. In order to promote investments in the field of food processing sector, the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) and Ise Foods Inc. signed a MoU in Mach 2018. For the other Japanese companies, we are trying to improve the business environment for investment in India, by having discussions and exchanging information between the Embassy of Japan in India and MoFPI, including signing of new MoUs with MoFPI.
At the dialogue, Minister Badal paid strong attention to the presentations made by Japanese companies and had intensive discussions with them. Japan and India agreed to have the 2nd Japan India Food Dialogue after three months.
