3. At the chamber, Honorable Speaker Smt. Sumitra Mahajan said as follows:
“Honorable Members,
You may recall that 72 years ago, on 6th and 9th August 1945, Hiroshima and Nagasaki suffered atomic bombs respectively because of which both the cities were decimated. Thousands were killed in this tragedy, lakhs were wounded and many were handicapped for entire life. Residents of Hiroshima and Nagasaki are still experiencing the harmful effects of atomic bombs even after 72 years. India has always been a strong advocate of its principles of Non-violence and has always made a strong effort to maintain peace and stability.
India has always been a strong advocate for सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः (May All be Happy). Even now the world is facing a threat from the misuse of Atomic Energy.
Come, let us on this day, resolve to end acts of such mass killing and promote message of peace and brotherhood in the world.
सर्वेषां स्वस्तिर्भवतु ।
सर्वेषां शान्तिर्भवतु ।
सर्वेषां पूर्नं भवतु ।
सर्वेषां मड्गलं भवतु ॥
May all attain peace,
May all be healthy,
May all endeavor good fortune,
May none suffer misery and sorrow,
And Peace and peace should be there.
Now this House shall stand in silence in solidarity for the victims of the atomic bombings.”
