Seminar on Quality Infrastructure: Japan’s Investment to India

A seminar titled“Quality Infrastructure: Japan's Investment to India” was organized by the Centre for Policy Research (CPR), in partnership with the Embassy of Japan in India, at Hotel Claridges, New Delhi, on February 27th, 2017. (Quality Infrastructure in India - Event Website
 
Ambassador Kenji Hiramatsu delivered the opening address. He mentioned in his remarks that, Japan's“quality infrastructure” include such elements as economic efficiency, safety and resilience against natural disasters, which can also contribute to economic growth in India. Moreover,“Quality Infrastructure”will lead to enhancing the quality of life, and Japan can play an important role in addressing economic and social challenges in India. Subsequently to the Ambassador's address, Mr. Amitabh Kant, CEO of NITI Aayog, Dr. Koki Hirota, Chief Economist of JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency), and Mr. R. C. Bhargava, Chair of Maruti Suzuki in India delivered speeches. After the opening session, two panel discussions were held on Japan's ODA (Official Development Assistance) and private investment to India, respectively. In each session, the panelists from public and private sectors in Japan and India discussed the roles that Japan's ODA and investment can play in the development of India.
