Japan and India signed Memorandum of Cooperation on Railway Safety

On February 17, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism(MLIT) of Japan and the Ministry of Railways(MOR) of the Republic of India signed and exchanged the Memorandum of Cooperation on Railway Safety, at the Ministry of Railways in Delhi, India. India had requested support from Japan on railway safety, following the consecutive major railway accidents since last November. Responding to India’s request, MLIT and MOR decided to sign and exchange the “Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan and the Ministry of Railways on the Republic of India on Railway Safety”. The Government of Japan will cooperate on the safety of railways, which is an important infrastructure for the economic development of India, with Japan’s advanced railway expertise.
