Ambassador Hiramatsu’s visit to Imphal, Manipur

Ambassador Kenji Hiramatsu visited Imphal, Manipur, on November 20, 21 and 22. He paid courtesy calls on the Hon'ble Governor of Manipur and the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Manipur. He also visited Lokpaching, which is known as the site of the fierce battle of World War II, and expressed his heartfelt condolences to the war dead and offered a prayer for peace. He also participated in the ‘Sangai Festival’, an event for promotion of tourism, culture and sports, as a chief guest, and deepened the friendship between Japan and Manipur.

 During his meetings with Hon’ble Governor and Hon’ble Chief Minister, as well as in his remarks at the Inauguration Ceremony of the Sangai Festival, Ambassador Hiramatsu stated that he visited Manipur this time with an important purpose of paying tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in the battle of Imphal during the World War II, and that he would like to cultivate the goodwill of the peoples of Japan and Manipur to deepen their relationship. He also expressed appreciation for being invited to the Sangai Festival and stated that, with this opportunity to experience first-hand the rich culture and tradition of Manipur, he would like to explore ways to have more exchanges between Japan and Manipur.
