Inauguration Ceremony of Eye Equipment for Underprivileged Patients in Delhi

The inauguration ceremony of “The Project for the Provision of Eye Equipment for Underprivileged Patients in Delhi”, under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Projects (GGP), will be held on 18th November 2016, at Sheikh Sarai, Delhi.
The ceremony will be attended by Dr. Abhishek B Dagar, Medical Superintendent & Joint Director of Venu Charitable Society, the recipient organization of this grant, relevant officials from Indian Government, as well as Mr. Kenji Hiramatsu, Ambassador of Japan to India.
The Grant Assistance for Grassroots Project scheme was established in 1989 to meet the diverse basic human needs in developing countries. The Government of Japan has supported India in projects such as construction of check dams and school buildings, as well as provision of medical mobile buses.
This project, which amounts to a total of approximately Six Million Japanese Yen, supported the purchase of eye equipments such as operating microscope, for treating key eye ailments of underprivileged people in the society.
Venu Charitable Society, the recipient organization of this project, established in 1980, is running a total of 14 eye medical centers spread across four States, along with a hospital in New Delhi. The organization was facing an acute need to enhance and upgrade its clinical diagnostic and surgical facilities, given the increasing number of patients - especially the underprivileged for whom the treatment is provided free of cost.
This project, through the purchase of new eye medical equipment, will help in efficiently delivering appropriate eye care to a larger section of the economically disadvantaged population, and will contribute to facilitate the quality of life of people for weaker sections of the society.
The Government of Japan hopes this project will contribute to improving the medical environment for the people in Delhi. Through the GGP Scheme, the Government of Japan looks forward to further developing the friendship and cooperation between Japan and India.
