Signing Ceremony of General Memorandum for Academic Exchange Cooperation and Student Exchange Agreement between Kyoto University and Banaras Hindu University

The Signing Ceremony of General Memorandum for Academic Exchange Cooperation between Kyoto University and Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and Student Exchange Agreement between Banaras Hindu University and Kyoto University took place at 11:00 am, Friday, 7th August, 2015, at BHU in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.

The following is the outline of the above-mentioned General Memorandum/Agreement:

(i) General Memorandum for Academic Cooperation and Exchange between Kyoto University, Japan and Banaras Hindu University, India
» The content of this Memorandum includes the exchange of faculty members and students and joint research, encompassing humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and interdisciplinary fields.

(ii) Student Exchange Agreement between Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, India, and Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan
» Under this Agreement, both universities will send and accept up to five students each year with the duration of stay up to one year. Students shall not pay tuition to their host institutions. The home institution may give credit to each student according to its regulations.

A partner city agreement between Varanasi and Kyoto was signed in August 2014, in presence of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Narendra Modi. Since then, Kyoto University and Banaras Hindu University have been working on the above-mentioned General Memorandum for Academic Exchange Cooperation and the Student Exchange Agreement.
